Hand-Carved Libyan Desert Glass Egyptian Scarab – 115 Carats
This stunning Egyptian Scarab is hand-carved from rare Libyan Desert Glass, a material created approximately 29 million years ago by the impact of a powerful asteroid. This Desert Glass Scarab embodies both the ancient symbolism of the scarab beetle and a unique cosmic history.
In 1922, archaeologist Howard Carter discovered a remarkable scarab pendant in Tutankhamun's tomb, which featured a scarab carved from a pale greenish-yellow stone originally believed to be chalcedony. Later, British geographer Patrick Clayton identified similar glass-like material found in the Libyan Desert as Libyan Desert Glass (LDG), linking it to the cosmic impact along the Libya-Egypt border.
Known as Great Sand Sea Glass, Libyan Desert Glass was formed when intense cosmic heat melted the desert sands, requiring temperatures over 1600°C (2900°F). Embedded with meteorite particles, this material is a true artifact of Earth’s ancient past and celestial origins. In Egyptian culture, the scarab beetle symbolizes good fortune, hope, restoration of life, transformation, growth, rebirth, and protection, making this piece a meaningful artifact and collectible.
