Hand-Carved Libyan Desert Glass Egyptian Scarab – 120 Carats

This exceptional Egyptian Scarab is meticulously carved from rare Libyan Desert Glass, a unique material formed approximately 29 million years ago by a powerful asteroid impact. This Desert Glass Scarab holds both ancient Egyptian symbolism and a fascinating cosmic history.

The Winged Scarab Pendant of Tutankhamun famously featured a scarab carved from a similar pale yellow-green stone, initially mistaken for chalcedony by Howard Carter when he discovered the tomb in 1922. Later, British geographer Patrick Clayton identified this glass-like material as Libyan Desert Glass (LDG), found in the Libyan Desert along the Libya-Egypt border.

Known as Great Sand Sea Glass, Libyan Desert Glass was created when an intense cosmic impact melted desert sands, with temperatures reaching over 1600°C (2900°F). Embedded with meteorite particles, this glass connects Earth to its celestial origins. In Egyptian culture, the scarab beetle is a powerful symbol of good fortune, hope, restoration of life, transformation, growth, rebirth, and protection, making this piece both meaningful and collectible.
